What Moms Really Need.

Even with all the years that have gone by, I still pinch myself to know that I’m a mom. The greatest honor of my life.

No one said this great honor was glamorous though. 🙂
That’s me in the middle of my laundry, between my then 3-year-old and 11-month-old.

I love looking at this photo because I don’t immediately look at the laundry, I zoom right into my babies and their faces. That day I showed my daughter how to pair socks, I gave up on doing all the things and focused on what was essential.

The laundry can be done, and it will always be there but I opt to enjoy the cuddles. I learned to incorporate an ordinary chore into our day.

The bottom line, when I think of what I needed when my children were little — and what I still need now — is kindness and support. Kindness from myself and others.

We tend to beat ourselves up a lot, a phrase that has helped on tough days is:
“You’re a Good mom, who’s having a bad day”.

(Remember that line)

This phrase also makes me appreciate a section from Rachel Hollis’ book Girl Wash your Face. She dedicates a chapter to new mamas and soon-to-be mamas.⠀

“A new Mother’s daily list of goals…⠀
1. Take care of the baby⠀
2. Take care of yourself⠀
…Darn it, you didn’t get to the laundry today? Look at your list again…Oh… you’re crushing this new-mom business then! .. laundry can wait.😊

Bless all of our moms and mother figures. She might be too shy to ask for help, but call her, offer anyways and tell her she’s amazing … it goes a long way. And don’t forget to pray for her, she’s likely praying for you.

If you haven’t received these already, grab the FREE downloadables below and sign-up for my email list.

These are great for young kids leading up to mother’s day. I got the idea from my children’s teachers. The kids’ answers to the questions are so sweet (give it a try).
