Exclusive for Pottery Barn Kids – Adventure Awaits Vintage Airplane by Lorena Depante

I was waiting for my café latte at a Starbucks when I saw a water bottle featured on their shelf. I picked it up and saw that it was by an artist. I looked up and the whole shelf was filled with more beautiful art.

I thought to myself “Wouldn’t that be so cool, to have my designs carried by a reputable brand.”

I grabbed my latte and went back to the conference I had been attending all weekend.

How lucky for me I was in Amy Porterfield’s Entrepreneur Experience in San Diego at the time. I was surrounded by other people who were focused on propelling to the next level, people who were energized, and helped me realize my dreams. Being featured as a designer by some major brands seemed to be among them. That included Starbucks, Indigo, Pottery Barn Kids and Papyrus according to my notes.

I flew back home to Canada with more clarity.  I learned that writing down where I want to be, helps me figure out what opportunities I need to take next.

The following month, our friends handed us a beautiful invitation to their daughter’s baptism. The presentation of the stationery was pristine and elegant, the design was right up my alley. I knew this was from Minted.

I was right, I’ve known about Minted for some time and their Designer & Artist Challenges. That night I looked at their website, my heart skipped a beat when I saw that their current challenge was for Pottery Barn Kids. What are the odds?!

They were looking for art designs for their upcoming nursery art collection. I smiled to myself, and said a big “Thank You!!” then got to work.

I’m pleased to share that one of my designs “Adventure Awaits Vintage Airplane was chosen by Pottery Barn Kids to be sold on their online catalogue from 2018 until the end of 2021.

This design was inspired by adventure and world travel lovers. But now you know, it also symbolizes ‘courage’, ‘determination’ and ‘the power of dreams’. I know I will be telling my children about this adventure. This lesson on how important it is to be clear about your goals, to think big and not be afraid. Success comes with doing the work and listening to the signs of life (to quote Mariam Naficy – founder of Minted).

From my imagination, my heart, sketches on paper and now to you. I still can’t believe it came to be, I’m thankful for this blessing and opportunity.

I hope this piece and my story bring you the inspiration to pursue your own dreams.

NOW AVAILABLE INTERNATIONALLY THROUGH MINTED.
